A game of mythical space exploration

Faster than light is a game that's partly strategy and role-playing game in which you have to travel through space (randomly generated). It's excellent in terms of gameplay, and has a colossal life duration thanks to its replayability, Faster Than Light (FTL for short) is an absolute classic that you can play and play again for a long time.

A space epic that's rich in content

In FTL, you control a spaceship that's been given a mission by the human federation to transmit a package to stop the advance of supremacist rebels. Don't worry if this scenario seems obscure at first glance, because this isn't what makes it an interesting game.

First and foremost, Faster Than Light concentrates on the atmosphere, and in particular, the joy of discovery: you're never likely to finish exploring all the intricacies of the game and unlocking the many hidden spaceships.

Numerous spaceships are available, each with its own type of weapons (laser, missiles, ion cannons) and its crew. Pick one, and start your adventure. You have to completely cross the playing area (each part is randomly generated for a different experience each time) and then beat the final boss. They are usually very hard to beat, making Faster Than Light a game that will last, even if the basics are simple to get a grip on.

Simple to play but difficult to master

The interface of FTL is crystal clear: you divide your crew members according to the different equipment in the spaceship (weapons, shields, steering, etc.) while ensuring that equipment is properly supplied with power. Because your ship has a limited amount of resources you will need to allocate them according to each situation: don't hesitate to send the energy to your shields if you cross an asteroid field or to the engines so that you can escape from a dangerous situation.

The finesse of the gameplay is a great strength of Faster Than Light. By combining strategy, management, exploration, and role playing, FTL has managed to concoct fascinating gameplay, especially since the battle mechanisms are simple.

You quickly get attached to the little people in the spaceship, which is unfortunate given the omnipresence of death in Faster Than Light. Prepare for disappointment when your whole crew perishes due to a failure of the oxygen system, leaving your ship to drift forever in the vacuum of space!

Simple and readable graphics ?matched by a mythical soundtrack

From a graphics point of view, Faster Than Light is far from impressive. With its low-resolution images, the game almost looks like a flash game that were all the rage a few years ago. We must admit, however, that the esthetics of the spaceships are very neat, and a lot of effort has been put into the interface and the readability of the action.

Musically, however, FTL is an absolute classic. the quality of the 8-bit compositions that punctuate the game is remarkable: they add wonderfully to the atmosphere, and bring a beautifully melancholic aspect to FTL.

A classic that never gets old

Since its release, Faster Than Light has become an absolute classic, an uncategorizable game that just has to be a part of your gaming library. With its many secrets to unlock and a world that's randomly generated each game, the game offers great gaming longevity. FTL is a brilliant and incredibly addictive game  the kind that makes you start up a new game whenever you unfairly get killed. A must-have!
